Culture is a vital and essential part of any society. Culture is the way of life, so every society, no matter what the size, exists with certain norms and cultural values. If the individuals of the society, fail to acknowledge the importance of their cultural values then they end up losing their identity. Pakistan seems to be going through a cultural crisis as well. There are many examples, that show us the degradation of the norms and values of the society. The Pakistani female models such as Ayyan Ali, Mathira and Qandeel Baloch are an example of the lack of values.
The youth always requires role models to look up to. Children need to grow up looking at personalities, who can inspire them to do great things. But unfortunately, Pakistani female models like Ayyan Ali, Mathira Khan and Qandeel Baloch, fail to provide any inspiration. Instead of that, they pose a serious threat to the cultural norms of the society.
By looking at the careers of these three Pakistani female models, it can be clearly understood how they pose a serious threat to the society.
Ayyan Ali started modeling at the young age of sixteen. At the very beginning of her career, she saw success as she won the title of Best Female Emerging Model. She had a good career start and was nominated four times for the Lux style Awards. She has worked with the top fashion designers of Pakistan. In 2010, she was also awarded the Calvin Klein ‘Beauty of the Year 2010’ and later became their brand ambassador.
Things took a negative turn when she was arrested on 14th March 2015 at the Benazir International Airport by the Pakistan Airport Security Forces. She was charged with money laundering. She has also released some music videos, which have not been able to get any positive reviews from critics or the public.
Mathira is also a controversial figure of Pakistani showbiz. She has hosted several TV shows and also has released some songs. She has stirred up controversy because of her bold nature. The songs released by her were also met with a lot of criticism and controversy. Her item song in the movie; Mein Hoon Shahid Afridi, was not at all appreciated by people.
Qandeel Baloch is another controversial name. She has become notorious because of her controversial videos. Because of her videos, she has been compared to Kim Kardashian and Poonam Pandey; both known for the controversy stirring personalities. Her recent stunt for gaining publicity was a promise of strip dance for the nation, if Pakistan managed to win the twenty20 match against India. In her interview, she told that Rakhi Sawant, Sunny Leone and Poonam Pandey are her inspirations. The Qandeel Baloch songs, is also another controversial aspect of her personality.
Some other Pakistani female Models
There have been a lot of Pakistani top models, who had highly successful careers without any controversy. There are several Pakistani top models, who are still working successfully in the industry like Mehreen Syed, Sunita Marshal, Nadia Hussain etc. All these successful Pakistani female models show us that…to get attention, controversy is not needed. It is the hard work, honesty and talent that wins you the respect of other people. These Pakistani female models have earned the respect of people, because they have given respect to the values of society.
Looking at the Mathira songs and Qandeel Baloch songs you can see the results of what happens when one decides to throw away the cultural norms of a society. Trying to copy the values of other cultures results in losing one’s own identity.
Take care of Your Cultural Values
It is important to tell the young generation the importance of respecting cultural values. If you grow up admiring the wrong people then you will end up following the wrong principles and values. Like Qandeel Baloch said that her inspiration are people like Rakhi Sawant and Poonam Panday, no wonder she loves being center of controversy.
Being aware of the cultural values is important because the culture reflects the moral and ethical values of a society. If you do not consider yourself bound by culture then you also consider yourself free of any moral duty. A society that is incapable of recognizing the ethical and moral values, is not a civilized society.
Recognition is given to the people who are unique. People who lack their culture lack uniqueness. We see our media trying to adopt the culture which is not theirs. But the truth is that when they worked within the boundary line of ethics defined by their culture they were successful and they were respect. A lesson can be learnt from Iran. They have won an Oscar for their movie and they have not sacrificed their cultural norms to get it.
People like Mathira Khan, Qandeel Baloch and Ayyan Ali are a threat to the cultural norms. They aim to degrade and destroy them.
